Division IV Candidate for Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect 2008

Candidate Statement
I seek your support to represent Division IV on the IEEE Board of Directors. While improved IEEE finances have solved some but not all financial problems, my objective would be to provide stewardship that would encourage innovation to meet future needs of the Societies and Councils.
Our membership provides the sustaining strength for the IEEE publications and conferences. The decline in membership must be reversed. This membership concern needs to be a clear focus of the IEEE Board of Directors. I would seek to work effectively in providing membership value to the members of our Societies and Councils.
While my principal activity has been with the Microwave Theory and Technique Society, my experience across a broad set of IEEE Boards and Committees provides critical insight into the values and needs of their activities. I would work to encourage financial responsibility and transparency without losing sight of the need for progress and change.
Please email me with questions or issues.
I ask for your support and your vote for Delegate-Elect/Director-Elect to undertake these important tasks.

IEEE Accomplishments
The opportunity to participate with other volunteers and staff in accomplishments benefiting IEEE members has been a privilege. Prior to becoming the 2000 MTT-S president, I was able to establish the MMMIC Conference that was for years a part of IMS Microwave Week.
Serving on the PSPB/TAB Electronic Products and Services Committee, I pressed for a member rate single article electronic purchase. I also chaired the Conference Publications Committee which oversaw the transition to electronic submission of conference publications as well as the development of author support software for EXPLORE compatibility.
On the Membership Development Committee, I organized and ran a workshop for membership chairs and worked to simplify the online membership application.
On the Educational Activities Board chairing the Continuing Professional Education Committee (CPEC), I oversaw an expansion of the Educational Partners Program, the integration of the Expert Now IEEE as a CPEC activity and member access to the courses.
For the honorary general chair, I ran the Steering Committee for the successful IEEE Radar 2007 Conference in Boston.
On the IEEE Awards and Presentation Committee, I advocated improvements in the IEEE Honors Booklet and Ceremony. As MTT-S Awards Chair, I planned the awards banquet presentation for IMS 2007.
